Week 1
Updated: Aug 15
Hello Junior Cougar Nation!
Coach Cross and I and the rest of the JRCXC family are excited to kick off the fall season on Monday. As a reminder for returning families, and a note to new families, here are things you need to know heading into this week.
Practice is immediately after school on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays (although this Thursday - 8/6- is special) until 5:30. Runners need to come to school with their running attire for the afternoon, and change immediately after school. For now, they leave when second load for busses is dismissed, head to the gym and exit the school behind the gym. They leave their backpacks and school material along the wall of the gym with the other runners, then come check in with the coaches at the picnic table by the tennis courts. BRING WATER BOTTLES FILLED AND USE THE BATHROOM BEFORE LEAVING
Pickup is in the bus lanes at 5:30. Pull around the bend and create two lanes in the bus lanes. DO NOT park or wait on the bend or attempt to park/wait in the drive towards the back lot. This creates a hazard for vehicles and runners.

Thursday is unique this week only because Cougar Nation night is being held at Big Peach Running Co on Windward Parkway. We will have show reps and fitting specialists if your runner needs new running shoes, along with some swag distribution (full kits are still coming in) and a parent meeting at 5:30. Pizza will be served, and we will have a short team run for anyone who is interested at ~6pm. (1 mile).
Reminder that for all registered runners you can join us for the end-of-season pool party at Hillbrooke on Sunday (8/2) from 1-3pm. Please RSVP here- https://forms.gle/2YWuAQXJRyVZ3kc9A
Sunday night is our Cougar Nation Family Run at the Greenway near the Alpharetta YMCA. We meet at 6 and will run until 7:15. Families are encouraged to make this a nice family evening while we run with the entirety of Cougar Nation.
Our first full team meet will be Saturday, August 29th; we have less than one month to get new and non-summer runners ready. By showing up to practices and participating with their best effort, we will get your runners ready. But the effort and focus falls on them. We will talk about recovery and rest this week. We ask that you help them focus on their transition back to school or into middle school and their other scholastic or extracurricular activities. Being a well-rounded person is one of the most important lessons we as parents and coaches can teach. And when they are with us for 90 minutes on practice days, we will focus on what we can focus on.
