2019 Season Recap
“Make a habit of excellence and success will be the side effect.”
Year by year, this team just continues to amaze and impress. We started this program just three years ago and for three consecutive years, we have improved both on an individual and team level. In every race that the top girls competed at, they stood on the podium, winning 3 races, placing 2nd in 3 races along with a single 3rd place finish. That included a 2nd place finish at State (not to mention the JV Girls winning State for the second consecutive year). On the guys side, they won the Cherokee County Classic, and finished both second and third twice which includes their 3rd place finish at State (with the JV Boys finishing 2nd at State as well). This meant that the team as a whole won the Grand State Championship, placing us as the premier public middle school program in the State of Georgia!
On an individual level, 26 out of 30 girls set their personal records this season. The girls also set 6 of the best 8 PRs in club history. Ten girls finished in the Top 25 at State (in the two different races) which qualified them for a State Medal. This year, 17 girls went sub-18 (15 – last year, 6 -2017) while 13 went sub-16 (8 – 2018, 2 – 2017). On the boys’ side, 54 of 58 guys set their personal records, of which 12 of them were a part of the top 15 PRs in club history. This year, 33 boys went sub-16 (21 – 2018, 12 – 2017), while 16 boys went sub-14 (6 – 2018, 2 – 2017). Ten boys also finished in the Top 25 at State (in the two different races) which qualified them for a State Medal. This is an extraordinary measure of individual success, which is a testament to their hard work and dedication to the sport.
The level of success that this program has achieved in these short three years has been nothing short of amazing. We will graduate an impressive group of young men and women, but still have a great core of 6th and 7th graders which includes the fastest 6th and 7th grade boys in club history as well as the fastest 7th grade girl. In fact, our 7th grade boys’ group is so strong, that they hold 6 out of the top 8 times in club history. GHSA is reclassifying this season, so next year will see changes to the structure of the Middle School State Championships, but I am certain that no matter what classification we fall into, our team is ready to be successful.
